摘要: Abstract. The Global Energy Balance Archive (GEBA) is a database for the central storage of worldwide measured energy fluxes at Earth's surface, maintained ETH Zurich (Switzerland). This paper documents status GEBA version 2017 dataset, presents new web interface and user access, reviews scientific impact that data had in various applications. has continuously been expanded updated contains its around 500 000 monthly mean entries surface balance components 2500 locations. observations from 15 flux components, with most widely quantity available being shortwave radiation incident (global radiation). Many historic records extend over several decades. variety sources, namely World Radiation Data Centre (WRDC) St. Petersburg, national weather services, different research networks (BSRN, ARM, SURFRAD), peer-reviewed publications, project reports, personal communications. Quality checks are applied to test gross errors dataset. played key role applications, such as quantification global balance, discussion anomalous atmospheric absorption, detection multi-decadal variations radiation, known dimming brightening . further extensively used evaluation climate models satellite-derived products. On more level, provides basis engineering applications context solar power generation, water management, agricultural production tourism. publicly accessible through internet via http://www.geba.ethz.ch Supplementary https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.873078
