摘要: Abstract Background: An epidemic of enterovirus 71 (EV71) occurred in Taiwan from April to December 1998, with two peaks, one June and the other October. Many enteroviruses were isolated our laboratory 258 cases during this outbreak. Approximately half EV71 fifth coxsackievirus A16. Objectives: To analyze findings 1998 Taiwan, various specimens different cell lines examined. In addition, genetic analysis 5′ non-coding region (NCR) was performed strain variation Results: The cytopathic effect induced by observed 2–13 (mean 4.5) days post-inoculation Vero cells 4–15 6.6) green monkey kidney (GMK) inoculated throat swabs. Of total positive cases, virus most frequently obtained swabs (91.7%), less stools (64.8%), none cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). Molecular analyses sequencing NCR 34 strains clinical categories geographic areas showed that their sequences differed (0–13 bp 681 sequenced) ∼0–2%. these isolates prototype BrCr or MS 17.5–19%, exception samples which exhibited nucleotide only 8.9 8.2%, when compared strain. Conclusion: swab cells. molecular revealed belonged a group closely related clones clustered
