摘要: Coral reefs exhibit marked zonation patterns within single and across continental shelves. For sessile organisms these zones are often related to wave exposure. We examined the extent which exposure may shape distribution of fishes. documented 98 species wrasses parrotfishes at 33 sites Great Barrier Reef. The greatest difference between labrid assemblages was habitat level, with exposed reef flats crests on mid- outer possessing a distinct faunal assemblage. These were dominated by individuals high pectoral fin aspect ratios, i.e. fishes believed be capable lift-based swimming achieve speeds. Overall, there strong correlation estimated performance, as indicated ratio, degree water movement. propose that performance in limits access high-energy locations significant factor influencing use regional biogeography
