摘要: BACKGROUND This study examines differences in the factors female and male physicians considered influential their rural practice location choice describes arrangements that successfully recruited to areas. METHODS cross-sectional was based on a mailed survey of between 1992 1999 towns 10,000 or less six states Pacific Northwest. RESULTS Responses from 77 men 37 women (response rate 61%) indicated were more likely than have been influenced making by issues related spouse personal partner, flexible scheduling, family leave, availability childcare, interpersonal aspects recruitment. Commonly reported themes reflected respondents9 desire for flexibility regarding value they placed honesty during CONCLUSIONS It is very important recruitment both highlight positive community involve assist physician9s partner. If want achieve gender-balanced physician workforce, communities practices recruiting should place high priority spouse-partner, process.
