摘要: Abstract Automatic identification system (AIS) is becoming increasingly popular with marine vessels providing accessible, up-to-date information on vessel activity in the environment. Although AIS has been utilised several different fields to address specific questions, no published work outlined potential of as a tool for wide range industries and users environment such spatial planning, developments, local (e.g. fisheries). This demonstrates procedure processing, analysing, visualisation data example outputs their uses. Over 730 000 points 2013 from around Shetland were processed, analysed, mapped. Tools used included density mapping, tracks, interpolations dimensions, ship type analysis. The dataset was broken down by sector into meaningful usable packets which could also be analysed over time. Density derived both point track data, proved highly informative but unable all aspects data. Vessel tracks showed variation routes, especially island groups. Additional uses addressed risk mapping invasive non-native species, fisheries, general statistics. Temporal discussed.
