Leiomyomata of the esophagus.An analysis of 838 cases

摘要: Review of the world literature to end 1971 has provided data on 838 cases esophageal leiomyomata, including our own 19 surgically removed lesions. Although leiomyoma is most common benign tumors esophagus, it still rare compared with carcinoma. It occurs in more men than women, by a ratio 1.9 1. Over 50% patients esophagus are asymptomatic. Dysphagia and vague pain frequent symptoms. Pyrosis mentioned as present 40% cases, but considered mainly symptom coexistent hiatal hernia. Diagnostic problems often arise, smooth muscle may mimic mediastinal neoplasms, cysts, or even aneurysms, complicate coexisting hernia diverticulum. Operative management transthoracic enucleation procedure choice, although resection esophagaus be required few cases. Postoperative morbidity minimal results excellent.
