摘要: Gambiense trypanosomiasis is considered an anthroponotic disease. Consequently, control programs are generally aimed at stopping transmission of Trypanosoma brucei gambiense (T. b. gambiense) by detecting and treating human cases. However, the persistence numerous foci despite efforts to eliminate this disease questions strategy as unique tool pursue eradication. The role animals a reservoir T. still controversial, but could partly explain maintenance infection hypo-endemic levels. In present study, we evaluated presence in wild Equatorial Guinea. rate ranged from 0.8% insular focus Luba more than 12% Mbini, with constant trickle parasite was detected wide range animal species including four never described previously putative reservoirs. Our study comes reinforce hypothesis that may play transmission, being particularly relevant low settings. Under these conditions integration sustained vector medical interventions should be achieve elimination trypanosomiasis.
