摘要: Low heat transfer performance has been the main problem restricting use of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) in situations requiring rapid energy release or storage. Three innovative solutions are studied this Thesis to improve PCMs. These include combining PCMs with metal foams, Cascaded Thermal Energy Storage (CTES) and Metal Foam-enhanced (MF-CTES). Heat conduction is investigated Chapter 3, which it was found that foams can improve conduction by 5–20 times. Natural convection in Chapter 4, were suppress natural due their large flow resistances. Nevertheless, can still achieve a higher overall heat transfer rate (3–10 times) than without foams. CTES examined Chapter 5, results showing (30%) and higher exergy (22%) Single-stage (STES). MF-CTES is proposed 6; is, best knowledge author, first time it has investigated. MF-CTES further exergy transfer 2–7 times, meanwhile reducing melting 67%–87%.
