摘要: Unregulated commercial-scale exploitation of trees is an indication the extent threat to various tree species. The study examined threat status commercially exploited in the forest estates South eastern Nigeria. Specifically, it identified tree species under threat, and categorized them into classes, as well as determined rate at which were slipping extinction. The study utilized IUCN’s categorization criteria, in determining the threat trees. This combined both secondary primary data sources generated through Forest Inventory records, Tree Felled Analysis records Participatory Survey. Data such population size density species, level sensitive social and ecological parameters obtained applied against IUCN criteria. Twenty-eight (28) species representing Thirty-two percent (32%) of eighty-six (86) threatened, ranging from Vulnerable to Critically Endangered categories. theory of small declining population paradigms found be relevance in explaining processes. Nine Triplochiton spp., Baillonella toxisperma, Pogaoleosa, Anopyxis spp. among others considered require urgent conservation attention. Recommendations are proposed halt process of decline biodiversity
