摘要: Summary A two part survey was carried out in Irish Thoroughbred horses 1988 and 1989 to establish the incidence prevalence of developmental skeletal problems, particularly possible manifestations orthopaedic disease (DOD). Survey One a retrospective study based on questionnaire involving foal crops 46 stud farms for 3 successive seasons; 1711 animals initially documented represented 10.46% registrations. The second involved repeated monitoring crop from birth 18 months age 17 farms. 248 foals examined 4.24% Treatment DOD deemed necessary 11.3% One. Angular limb deformities physeal dysplasia (“epiphysitis”) together constituted 72.9% cases treated. peak problems occurred between weaning end December. More than half treated (53.9%) recovered completely, ie achieved expected sale value as yearlings, 27.5% those showed incomplete recovery mild moderate loss remaining 18.7% were killed or lost much their value. In survey, while 67% exhibited some form DOD, severity not significantly different Again, angular deformity predominant clinical conditions greatest during early winter.
