The burden of underweight and overweight among women in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

摘要: Obesity and overweight are rising worldwide while underweight rates persist in low-income countries. The aim of this study was to examine changes the prevalence overweight/obesity among non-pregnant women aged 15-49 years, its socio-demographic correlates Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. data from 2000, 2005 2011 nationally representative Ethiopian Demographic Health Surveys Ababa. dependent variable women’s nutritional status measured terms body mass index coded binary outcomes risk being ( 25 kg/m2 vs. ≤25 kg/m2). Logistic regression models were used estimate strength associations. increased significantly by 28%; decreased 21% between 2000 2011. Specifically, urban obesity 43.3% i.e., 3.0% 4.3% about 15 years. Overall, more than one-third (34.7%) Ababa either under or overweight. Women’s age proxies for high socio-economic (i.e. household wealth quintile, educational attainment, access improved source drinking water, television watching) positively associated with young low limited water toilet facility). There is a need policies recognize simultaneous public health problems overnutrition, programs target distinct populations that suffer these nutrition area.
