To measure serum concentrations of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and to investigate the relationship between BMP clinical manifestations radiographic changes. Methods. We studied 60 consecutive AS without spinal fusion. Spinal radiographs were assessed using Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Radiology Index (BASRI) modified Stoke Score (mSASSS). fusion was defined as presence total bony bridging 2 adjacent vertebral bodies either lumbar or cervical spine. Serum levels determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results. Patients had higher BMP-2 BMP-4 than healthy controls (p Conclusion.
