摘要: Vagal nerve stimulation has been reported to enhance memory in both rats and humans, be an effective treatment for epilepsy some patients, but the underlying neuroanatomical substrate(s) responsible these effects remains unknown. Since there is no direct anatomical projection from nucleus tractus solitarius, main vagal relay site of brain, hippocampus, we tested whether a multisynaptic pathway exists. Pseudorabies virus, pig herpesvirus that can used as retrograde transneuronal tracer, was injected into ventral CA1 hippocampus rats, after 4 days, pseudorabies virus infected neurons were identified general visceral portion with majority being localized A2 noradrenergic cell group. Other autonomic brainstem nuclei, including parabrachial nucleus, locus coeruleus, A1 A5 groups, C1 adrenergic group, labeled. In order identify potential sites solitarius→hippocampal pathway, immunotoxin lesions region made selectively destroyed either or cholinergic fibers. After 2 weeks' recovery, this same area, days later, labeling solitarius reduced by approximately 65%. These findings suggest coeruleus medial septum/diagonal band are likely pathway. linkages discussed. summary, first report show linked via relays hippocampus.
