摘要: Objective To evaluate the long-term efficacy of 5 α -reductase inhibitor finasteride in idiopathic hirsutism. Design Prospective clinical study. Setting Outpatients a university hospital. Patient(s) Fourteen young women with Intervention(s) Finasteride, 5mg once daily, was given for 12 months. Main Outcome Measure(s) Degree hirsutism, graded by modified Ferriman and Gallwey score, serum sex hormones, urinary markers activity. Clinical outcome evaluated up to including 1-year post-treatment period. Result(s) The score showed remarkable reduction after months treatment (4.4 ± 0.7 versus 11.8 1.0; mean SEM). Serum levels two activity markers, dihydrotestosterone 3 -androstanediol glucuronide, decreased, C19 C21 β :5 steroid metabolite ratios consistently increased during administration. These changes were reversed readily cessation treatment. No significant adverse effect reported. Nine 14 completed follow-up. Their hirsutism scores substantially as compared values recorded at end therapy, but still lower than baseline values. Conclusion(s) is effective well tolerated Post-treatment follow-up suggests that drug effects on hair growth are sustained majority subjects this disorder.
