摘要: Abstract Microscale atmospheric models are increasingly being used to project the thermal benefits of urban heat mitigation strategies (e.g., tree planting programs or use high-albedo materials). However, prior investment in specific efforts by local governments, it is desirable test and validate computational evaluate strategies. While some studies have conducted limited evaluations ENVI-met microscale climate model for case studies, there has been relatively little systematic testing model's sensitivity variations input control parameters. This study builds on foundation past validation addressing two questions: (1) grid independent; (2) can adequately represent air temperature perturbations associated with strategies? To independence, a “flat” domain tested six vertical resolutions ranging from 0.75 2.0 m. examine second question, strategy simulations idealized city blocks tested. Results show failure independence simulations. Given that result changes an order magnitude larger than errors introduced dependence flat domain, lack itself does not necessarily invalidate research. due limitations structure model, was possible more complicated involving domains buildings. Furthermore, remains unclear whether existing at provide any assurance captures mixing exchange ground rooftop level. Thus, remain concerns regarding usefulness evaluating strategies, particularly when applied roof level (e.g. high albedo vegetated roofs).
