摘要: This report presents the results of a study to examine feasibility using volunteers as research staff for randomized trial whether reduction in dietary fat intake could prevent or delay breast cancer recurrence. We examined be trained recruit participants, deliver complex and intensive intervention, monitor intervention effectiveness. Volunteers, who were mostly employed nurses dietitians, screened 521 women, whom 293 eligible 144 randomized. Participants postmenopausal women under age 75, had recently been diagnosed with treated either mastectomy lumpectomy. At 1 year postrandomization, 77% 75% control participants remained active study. Intervention effects (change group minus change group) at 3, 6, 12 months postrandomization 5.9, 8.4, 7.2% energy from 1.7, 3.0, 3.5 kg body weight (all P < 0.001). These similar those other studies that used paid, professional interventions. Results this suggest volunteer-based health organizations can provide opportunities practitioners conduct high-quality lower costs.
