New Isotope Methods for Estimating Milk Intake and Yield

摘要: Abstract Two isotope tracer methods, based on the transfer of isotopic via milk from a female to offspring, were developed for estimating intake nursing offspring. One method depended upon tritiated water offspring in and simultaneous determination turnover by deuterium oxide. The second was radiocesium required use whole body counting techniques evaluating burden Experiments two methods with hand-reared Holstein calves given fixed intake. gave valid estimates intake; within ± 2.5% actual intakes. application limitations these yield other species are discussed.
