摘要: Shell outlines of 202 extant cytheroidean ostracods were analysed in dorsal, lateral, and posterior views by elliptic Fourier analysis. The results obtained confirm that the exterior morphology is related to ecological factors as well phylogenetic constraints. Phytal species living on tall seagrass benthic burrowing sediments are characterized differentiated from crawling presence slender shells with tapered venters. With reference reconstruction ancestral state outline traits molecular phylogeny, hypothetical ancestor presumed have had an average-shaped shell. Morphological plasticity shell was observed many families. phytal appear evolved convergently other habitats, acquiring slim during Cenozoic period. present analysis also reveals constraints morphological evolution Trachyleberididae their adaptation a habit. © 2009 Linnean Society London, Biological Journal Society, 2009, 97, 810–821.
