摘要: Growing awareness of heterogeneity in cells microbial populations has emphasized the importance advanced microscopy for visualization and understanding molecular mechanisms underlying cell-to-cell variation. In this review, we highlight some recent advances confocal microscopy, super-resolution optical (STED, SIM, PALM) as well atomic force Raman spectroscopy. Using examples bistability biofilm development differentiation bacterial yeast consortia, demonstrate variation between phenotypic traits such gene expression.
