摘要: The blood sugar lowering effect of the aqueous extract Sarcocephalus latifolius S. M. (Rubiaceae) and Daniella oliveri Rolfe (Caesalpiniaceae) roots (250mg/kg) was investigated on normoglycaemic alloxan induced diabetic rats. In addition, hexokinase, glucokinase phosphofructokinase activities as well hepatic glycogen content were assessed. extract’s potency compared with a standard drug, glibenclamide. test dose caused significant (p did not show in Diabetic rats showed both phosphofructokinase. oral LD50 mice greater than 5000 mg/kg. Phytochemical analysis revealed presence high levels flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, glycosides, steroids terpenoids moderate tannins. results indicate that decoction D. has antihyperglycaemic effect. probable mechanism action is discussed we suggest combination root extracts good option for alternative medicine management diabetes mellitus.
