Application of psychological theories on the role of gender in caregiving to psycho-oncology research.

摘要: Background Cancer affects both men and women, yet systematic understanding of the role gender in caregiving dyadic caregiver-patient interactions is lacking. Thus, it may be useful to review how theories apply cancer evaluate adequacy current studies theories. Methods Several databases, including MEDLINE (Ovid), PsychINFO, PubMed, CINAHL, were used for searching articles published English between 2000 2016. The search was restricted by age (≥18) yielded 602 articles, which subject further screen based on selection criteria. Of 108 full texts reviewed determine inclusion eligibility this review, 55 met criteria included review. Results supported "gender role" "doing gender" perspectives caregiver selection. identity, strain, transactional stress predicting outcomes at individual level. Furthermore, attachment, self-determination, interdependence incorporated factors that predicted patients' outcomes, vice versa. Conclusion Despite limited theory-driven research psycho-oncology general, utility (a) identifying subgroups dyads who are vulnerable adverse effects family (b) developing evidence-based interventions promising. Integrating broader issues medical trajectory, lifespan, sociocultural, biological gender-oriented practice encouraged.
