摘要: Using prospective data, we examined the relationship between occupational stress and risk for alcohol disorders. Consistent with Demand/Control model psychosocial work environments, hypothesized that individuals working in high-strain occupations (jobs high demands low control) would be at increased abuse-dependence relative to those low-strain control). We classified strain into two categories: (1) jobs psychological control, (2) physical control. A total of 18,571 study subjects were selected 1980-1984 by taking probability samples adult household residents five sites Epidemiologic Catchment Area Program. At baseline, participants completed standardized interviews measured sociodemographic variables assessed whether they had met diagnostic criteria currently or formerly active syndromes. The readministered 1 year later identify cases among participants. Subjects sorted sets age residence census tract, persons a previous history abuse dependence, as well who over 64 years no full-time employment, excluded. Among 507 included sets, there 126 incident 381 residence-matched noncases.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
