摘要: Abstract A novel repetitive DNA element has been isolated from the Leishmania infantum genome. The 348 bp long element, designated LiR3, was found to be located downstream 3'-end of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. This LiR3 short sequences with potential form stem-loop structures similar those bacterial rho-independent transcriptional terminators. Given both structural features and genomic location this we searched for a possible functional implication these in termination rRNA transcription. Nuclear run-on assays indicated that indeed there is blockage associated element. Several χ -like elements, resembling recombination-promoting sites Escherichia coli , were identified within structures. elements gene conversion events discussed.
