摘要: Abstract Lateral instability of elliptical hollow section (EHS) members in bending is studied this paper. Eight laterally unrestrained EHS beams, with a constant cross-sectional aspect ratio two, were tested three-point bending. The test set-up, material properties, geometry, residual stress measurements and full load-deformation responses the specimens are reported herein. To supplement experimental data, numerical models also developed validated against results. Parametric studies then performed, to assess influence member slenderness on lateral stability. Based assembled structural performance torsional buckling curves for beams have been statistically verified. Limiting lengths below which (LTB) need not be considered proposed.
