摘要: Abstract : Recently it has been suggested that many reaction traditionally classed in polar terms may proceed via single electron transfer (SET) processes. The results of experiments with rearrangeable alkenyl halide probes have often cited as evidence to support the conclusion an SET mechanism is operative. Serious complications this analysis surfaced. This Account critically evaluates utility these mechanistic for SET. Reactions which interfere standard include rearrangement non-radical intermediates and isomerization starting probe by a halogen atom mechanism. Guidelines are presented useful evaluating accuracy past conclusions drawn from designing future free complication. Keywords: Electron transfer, Mechanistic probes, Free radicals, Kinetics.
