The adequacy of institutional responses to death at work: Experiences of surviving families

摘要: Over 5 thousand family members and close friends of Australian workers become survivors sudden workplace death each year. Formal responses following the are central to surviving families' ability adapt, yet experiences these unknown. This study used in-depth interviews explore 7 members' formal mechanisms: postdeath protocols; interactions with employers, unions, media statutory authorities; stages legal process including coronial inquests, prosecutions by occupational health safety (OHS) regulator, civil action; outcomes judicial proceedings. Participants identified difficulties arising from insensitive treatment authorities, significant bureaucratic problems, a lack information, communication support. Systematic research that fully examines needs identifies organisational protocols is required advance management institutional thereby improve for families.
