A Rank-based VM Consolidation Method for Power Saving in Datacenters

摘要: In this paper, we propose a simple but flexible virtual machine consolidation method for power saving. This is specifically designed datacenters where heterogeneous high-density blade servers host dozens or even hundreds of machines. utilizes an extended First-Fit Decreasing (FFD) algorithm. It selects migration destination server on the basis rank. The rank represents selection priority and uniquely assigned to each physical server. Our simulation results show that reduces consumption by 34.5% under typical workload 33.8% random workload.
