Motor vehicle crash fatalities at 30 days in Spain

摘要: OBJECTIVES: To assess level of fulfilment and utility the hospital discharge register (HDR) as a complementary source information for estimating number deaths at 30 days due to motor vehicle crashes in Spain. METHODS: It is cros-sectional study were we compared people injured hospitalised public (HDR), Spain during 2001, with severely or killed reported by police database (Direccion General de Trafico, DGT) same year. A descriptive analysis was carried out age, sex region (Autonomous Community), well an estimation percentage under-reporting DGT based on two assumptions. RESULTS: Police 27,272 severe injuries 4,811 first 24 hours after crash applying fatality adjustment factor estimated 706 more up crash. The HDR 40,174 urgent hospitalisations. Of these, 1,099 died day hospitalisation within following days. only notified 68% all cases that required hospitalisation. According contrasted register, estimations made could represent between 3% 6.6%, depending assumption considered. CONCLUSIONS: This showed complements statistics useful estimate non-fatal
