摘要: Oral cancers annually strike 38,000 individuals in the United States and hundreds of thousands others around globe. Despite treatment advances, disease's overall five-year survival rate has not improved past three decades remains among worst all cancers. One factor behind oral cancer's high mortality is challenge detecting it at its early stages. The use saliva for detection cancer been a historical goal that yet to come fruition. This review highlights translational research efforts alignment with initiatives sparked by National Institute Dental Craniofacial Research toward bringing diagnostics fruition and, particular, saliva-based detection.
