摘要: Brucella are highly infectious bacterial pathogens responsible for brucellosis, a frequent worldwide zoonosis. The genus has recently expanded from 6 to 11 species, all of which were associated with mammals; natural host range amphibians after some reports atypical strains frogs. Here we describe the first in depth phenotypic and genetic characterization isolated frog. Strain B13-0095 was Pac-Man frog (Ceratophyrus ornate) at veterinary hospital Texas initially misidentified as Ochrobactrum anthropi. We found that belongs group early-diverging brucellae includes inopinata strain BO1 B. inopinata-like BO2, traits depart significantly those ‘classical’ spp. Analysis genome sequence revealed several specific features suggest this isolate represents an intermediate between soil ancestor adapted species. Like does not possess genes required produce perosamine based LPS classical Brucella, but set could encode rhamnose O-antigen. Despite this, very fast intracellular replication rate both epithelial cells macrophages. Finally, another major finding study is motility observed B13-0095, remarkable genus. This thus highlights novel characteristics belonging emerging within Accurate identification tools such isolates careful evaluation their zoonotic potential, urgently required.
