Beyond Corporate Codes of Conduct: Work Organization and Labor Standards in Two Mexican Garment Factories

摘要: This paper presents a matched pair case study of two factories supplying Nike, the world's largest athletic footwear and apparel company. These have many similarities - both are in Mexico, industry, produce more or less same products for Nike (and other brands) subject to code conduct. On surface, appear similar employment (i.e., recruitment, training, remuneration) practices they receive comparable scores when audited by Nike's compliance staff. However, underlying somewhat obscured by) these apparent similarities, significant differences actual labor conditions exist between factories. What drives working conditions? does this imply traditional systems monitoring codes conduct? Field research conducted at reveals that beyond conduct various efforts aimed enforcing it, workplace standards shaped very different patterns work organization human resource management policies.
