摘要: Approximately one third of all drugs prescribed in the United States are considered unnecessary. Polypharmacy, unnecessary, excessive use prescription and over-the-counter medications, increases clients' risk for adverse drug reactions drug-drug interactions. Reducing incidence polypharmacy is a health protection goal Healthy People 2000. Older clients, particularly older women living independently community, at highest caused by age-related changes pharmacokinetics pharmacodynamics, presence comorbidities requiring pharmacologic management, high rates unintentional noncompliance with their therapeutic regimen. Health providers may contribute to directly or inappropriate prescribing practices indirectly through inability resist client's demands interventions. Strategies prevent detect suggested reduce its severity consequences.
