Effective modelling of structural glass with laminated shell elements

摘要: The cross-sectional behaviour of laminated glass (LG) is characterised by a significant zigzag effect owing to the large stiffness mismatch between and polymer layers. approach incorporated in current design standards based on use monolithic model with an effective thickness, which suffers several sources inaccuracy limitations. In this paper, shell elements alternating stiff/soft lay-up are enhanced used LG structures, so as accurately reproduce through-thickness minimal number displacement parameters per node. order consider influence loading rate temperature response LG, linear viscoelastic material adopted simulate interlayer, formulated recursive formula for stress calculation. Finally, applications proposed modelling two-ply multi-ply structures presented, considering typical deflection, stability creep problems, where benefits demonstrated through comparisons against models thickness well 3D continuum models.
