摘要: This study evaluated the incidence, serotype distribution, and antimicrobial susceptibility of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in Saudi Arabian children. multicenter, prospective, clinical surveillance included children under 5years age, residents one seven health areas, who were brought to a hospital with suspicion IPD. Bacterial isolates from sterile site samples, collected less than 24h after visit/admission, identified, serotyped, tested for antibiotic susceptibility. Between June 2007 January 2009, 631 episodes suspected IPD recorded, 623 analysis. One child (0.2%) had previously received dose vaccine. Forty-seven positive Streptococcus pneumoniae three Haemophilus influenzae. The incidence confirmed cases was estimated be 2.5-21.6 per 100,000 (<5years). Among 46 S. serotyped susceptibility, most common serotypes 5 23F (20% each), 6B (17%), 1 14 (11% each). Sixty-three percent multidrug-resistant. Vaccination expanded-coverage conjugate vaccines containing could have substantial impact prevent this population.
