High-frequency stimulation of the globus pallidus internalis in Parkinson's disease: a study of seven cases

摘要: ✓ The effectiveness of ventroposterolateral pallidotomy in the treatment akinesia and rigidity is not a new discovery agrees with recent investigations into pathogenesis Parkinson's disease, which highlight role played by unbridled activity subthalamic nucleus (STN) consequent overactivity globus pallidus internalis (GPi). Because high-frequency stimulation can reversibly incapacitate nerve structure, we applied to same target. Seven patients suffering from severe disease (Stages III–V on Hoehn Yahr scale) and, particularly, bradykinesia, rigidity, levodopa-induced dyskinesias underwent unilateral electrode implantation posteroventral GPi.
