Effectiveness of psycho-educational intervention in improving outcome of unipolar depression: results from a randomised clinical trial.

摘要: Objectives: Depressive disorders are one of the leading components global burden disease with a prevalence up to 14% in general population. Numerous studies have demonstrated that pharmacotherapy combined non-pharmacological measures offer best treatment approach. Psycho-education as an intervention has been studied mostly such schizophrenia and dementia, less so depressive disorders. The present study aimed assess impact psychoeducation patients their caregivers on outcome depression. Methods: A total 80 eligible depressed subjects were recruited randomised into 2 groups. group involved family member all offered individual structured psychoeducational modules. Another (controls) received routine counselling. both groups also counselling from treating clinician assessed at baseline, 2, 4, 8, 12 weeks using Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), Global Assessment Functioning (GAF), Psychological General Well-Being Index (PGWBI). Results compared statistical methods including Chi-square test, Fisher's exact Student's t Pearson's correlation coefficient, well univariate multiple regression analyses. Results: Baseline socio-demographic assessment similar had consistent improvement terms HDRS, GAF, PGWBI scores showing respective mean change -15.08, 22, 60 over weeks. comparable changes controls -8.77, 18.1, 43.25. Conclusion: Structured psycho-education is effective for people optimises pharmacological depression faster recovery, reduction severity depression, subjective wellbeing social functioning.
