摘要: Objective: To determine the incidence of group A bhemolytic streptococcus (GABHS) carriers in children who are well, seen with presumed and documented viral illnesses sore throat, after treatment acute GABHS tonsillopharyngitis 10 days oral penicillin V potassium, cephalosporins, or macrolides. Methods: Prospective collection clinical microbiologic data from October 1996 to June 1997 a private pediatric practice were obtained asymptomatic both (and documented) throats, had completed full antibiotic course for throat infections. Results: The was 2.5% among well (n = 227), 4.4% upper respiratory tract infections including etiology 296), 6.9% whom viruses isolated 87). Following days’ tonsillopharyngitis, 81 (11.3%) 718 treated penicillin, 22 (4.3%) 508 an cephalosporin, (7.1%) 140 w ith m acrolide ere G ABHS c arriers (P,.001). Conclusions: small percentage practices have apparent carriers. Penicillin results higher carriage rate than occurs following cephalosporins Arch Pediatr Adolesc Med. 1999;153:624-628
