摘要: Many, if not most, animals have specific symbiotic relationships with bacterial partners. Recent studies suggest that vertebrates create alliances highly complex consortia of hundreds to thousands prokaryotic phylotypes. In contrast, invertebrates often binary associations, i.e., a population single species. this chapter, the association between Hawaiian sepiolid squid Euprymna scolopes and marine luminous bacterium Vibrio fischeri is highlighted. This symbiosis offers relatively simply, yet naturally occurring, can be experimentally manipulated. Studies system are providing insight into precise mechanisms by which beneficial animal-bacterial established maintained.
