摘要: The design and diffusion of context-specific technologies is centrally important in the multi-dimensional, complex farming systems arid semi-arid regions. This paper uses a mixed-method framework to characterize complexity heterogeneity smallholder identifies constraints opportunities for sustainable intensification. Specifically, study: (i) characterized farm household typologies based on diversity livelihood assets; (ii) co-designed context- specific interventions through an iterative participatory process; (iii) ex-ante evaluated such inform multiple stakeholders. We explored system using data from 224 households western Rajasthan, India. Employing multivariate statistical techniques validation, we identified 7 distinct types. Participatory appraisal with stakeholders revealed across For instance, interest farmers integrating perennial fruit trees even among rainfed types markedly varied: type 1 preferred multipurpose forestry tree, khejri which requires low labor inputs; 2 market-oriented horticulture production; 3 did not opt perennials but small ruminants; 4 (dominated by women) opted kitchen gardens. study demonstrated utility mixed-methods approach that addresses multi-dimensional generate insights assist co-designing locally appropriate different agro-ecological regions achieve
