摘要: Abstract Serum was necessary for optimal phagocytosis of Aspergillus fumigatus spores by human leukocytes, and its opsonic capacity greatly diminished heat inactivation (56 C, 30 min). A germination assay, described in this report, developed to study the fate phagocytized spores. After incubation 3 hr with normal leukocytes serum, ingested peripheral blood neutrophils monocytes remained viable. Since we had previously found that myeloperoxidase (MPO), a lysosomal enzyme monocytes, exerted fungicidal activity against Candida albicans when combined H2O2 chloride or iodide, effects these substances on A. were examined. Spore viability not impaired MPO alone, KI but high concentrations combination caused marked inhibition subsequent germination. imparted lacked any effect absence. NaCl, H2O2, far less effective than iodide salt fumigatus. The relative ineffectiveness system could underly apparent inability kill spores, despite their competence C. albicans.
