摘要: Abstract Interfacial and surface reactions between stoichiometric single crystals of molybdenite iron were studied as a function overlayer thickness annealing temperature. At room temperature, was deposited relatively contiguous film on the basal plane molybdenite. Annealing in UHV caused (i) to agglomerate into discrete particles (ii) sulfur transfer from surface. above 923 K adsorbed desorb or back permitted some migrate within MoS 2 crystal structure forming subsurface layers FeMo S 4 . The ĉ -axis oriented parallel th 1123 did not increase fraction suggesting that limited number defects provided pathways for diffusion reaction iron. effects higher defect densities excess are discussed Part II this study. noted findings have implications fields tribology catalysis where interactions determine adhesion/wear characteristics and/or catalytic activity/selectivity, respectively.
