摘要: Mining companies are increasingly seen as co-governors of sub-Saharan Africa's gold mining industries, sharing sovereignty with states through private governance initiatives. Using interviews company executives from the continent's largest firms this paper highlights authority these vis-a-vis state. This firstly examines globalization and literature, focusing on why share non-state actors. Secondly, a “three faces power” framework is employed to understand how exercised. Thirdly, regimes specific industry outlined. Finally, individuals’ firms’ attitudes towards examined an analysis elite interviews. The theoretical empirical demonstrates that formulating rules in order increase certainty reduce investment risk. These engaging initiatives build reputations experts thereby controlling regulation their sector, rather than states.
