摘要: Wildlife is a global source of endemic and emerging infectious diseases. The control tuberculosis (TB) in cattle Britain Ireland hindered by persistent infection wild badgers (Meles meles). Vaccination with Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) has been shown to reduce the severity progression experimentally induced TB captive badgers. Analysis data from four-year clinical field study, conducted at social group level, suggested similar, direct protective effect BCG badger population. Here we present new evidence same study identifying both beneficial vaccination individual an indirect unvaccinated cubs. We show that intramuscular injection reduced 76% (Odds ratio = 0.24, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.11–0.52) risk free-living vaccinated individuals testing positive diagnostic test combination detect progressive infection. A more sensitive panel tests for detection per se identified reduction 54% 0.46, CI 0.26–0.88) result following vaccination. In addition, cubs, but not adults, even decreased significantly as proportion their increased 0.08, 0.01–0.76; P 0.03). When than third had vaccinated, cubs was 79% 0.21, 0.05–0.81; 0.02).
