摘要: Abstract The early postpartum period lays important groundwork for later self-regulation as infants’ dispositional traits interact with caregivers’ co-regulatory behaviors to produce the earliest forms of self-regulation. Although emerging literature suggests that fetal exposure maternal stress may be integral in determining child self-regulatory capacity, complex pathways characterize these developmental processes remain unclear. current study considers complex, transactional a low income, Mexican American sample. Data were collected from 295 infants and their mothers during prenatal, 6- 12-week home interviews. Mother reports obtained prenatally, mother infant temperament at 6 weeks. Observer ratings sensitivity regulatory time points. Study results indicate prenatal predicts higher levels negativity surgency, both which directly or interactively predict engagement behaviors. Unexpectedly, also predicted more orienting, but not self-comforting Advancing understandings about nature have significant implications targets intervention this high risk population.
