摘要: Abstract Bacteriophage P1 is only weakly restricted when it infects cells carrying type I restriction and modification systems even though DNA purified from phage particles a good substrate for enzymes in vitro . Here we show that this protection against due to the products of two genes which call darA darB ( dar d efense gainst r estriction). Each gene provides different subset systems. The are found head protect any packaged into head, including transduced chromosomal markers, restriction. proteins must, therefore, be injected recipient along with DNA. act strictly cis For example, upon double infection restricting + − phages, genomes protected while efficiently restricted.
