摘要: Reflecting international patterns, Aboriginal people in Victoria are more likely to gamble and experience gambling harm than non-Indigenous Victorians. This paper describes experiences of reported by 50 interviewed regional 2016 2017 as part studies initiated two community-controlled organisations. Data were analysed using social practice theory (SPT) coded the elements 'meaning', 'material', 'competence', 'temporality'. Across each element we identified highly contradictory experiences. Gambling held meaning an opportunity for community gatherings but was also regarded a cause domestic violence, conflict, isolation shame. Materially, venues that offered experienced many safe welcoming, at same time produced damaging affective sense addiction some. competency some valued taught children, it seen undermining cultural practices. While historically denied access licensed offering commercial gambling, participants now found opportunities inescapable. The intermingling benefits harms described above supports need multi-faceted response communities, which includes reduction well supply restriction treatment. Some related our reflected those Australians, while others differently nuanced. Because SPT is used understand collectively-shared practices, facilitates identification interventions level community, recommended research participants.
