摘要: Tidal heating is the major source of heat in outer Solar System. Because its strong tidal interaction with Jupiter and other Galilean Satellites, Io incredibly volcanically active. We use directly measured volcanic activity level Io's volcanoes as a proxy for surface flow compare to model predictions. Volcanic better than simply locations constructs. determine using three data sets: Galileo PPR, NIMS, New Horizons LEISA. also present systematic reanalysis NIMS observations 3.5 micron brightness 51 active volcanoes. find that potential differences style between high low latitudes make latitude unreliable distinguishing models. Observations polar areas, such those by JUNO, are necessary unambiguously understand flow. However, all sets examined show relative dearth near 180 W (anti-Jovian point) equator only set good sub-Jovian point (LEISA) shows lack region. These more consistent mantle-heating asthenospheric-heating model. Furthermore, four-fold symmetry longitude peak at mid-latitudes, which best matches combined case Tackley et al. (2001).
