摘要: Background: Thiamin deficiency in infancy is the underlying cause of beriberi, which can be fatal without rapid treatment. Reports thiamin are common Cambodia; however, population representative data unavailable. Because B-complex vitamin deficiencies commonly occur combination, riboflavin was also investigated. Objective: We determined biomarker status and women childbearing age rural urban Cambodia. Methods: measured (erythrocyte diphosphate; TDP) glutathione reductase activity coefficient; EGRac) a sample Cambodian (aged 20‐45 y) Phnom Penh (n = 146) Prey Veng 156), Cambodia, and, for comparison purposes, convenience Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 49). Results: insufficiency (TDP # 90nmol/L) among both (39%) (59%) (P < 0.001), whereas <20% Vancouver were insufficient 0.001). The prevalence suboptimal deficient (EGRac $ 1.3) 89%, 92%, 70% Penh, Veng, respectively Conclusions: Suboptimal women, with substantially higher rates living than Penh. Strategies may needed to improve unexpected finding high inadequacy warrants further investigation. J Nutr doi: 10.3945/jn.114.203604.
