摘要: Regeneration experiments in Hydra have shown that lithium long-term treatment apparently causes a transformation of prospective head into foot tissue. Although ions are known to interfere with the PI-PKC signal-transduction system and evidence has been provided this plays role pattern formation Hydra, its mediating effect on patterning is still obscure. The present study provides H2O2 presumably also lipid hydroperoxides mediate effects. First, perturbation strikingly stronger strain vulgaris than magnipapillata, similar strain-specific differences found long lasting accumulation following treatment. Second, antioxidant vitamins E C, which suppress peroxide accumulation, H2O2-degrading enzyme catalase significantly protect H. from Lithium negatively affects overall DNA synthesis manner, which, however, cannot be rescued by vitamins. lithium-activated source production differs another source, generates untreated polyps both strains. results suggest treatment-induced provokes cytotoxic response showing foot-like characteristics. Nevertheless, peroxides as messengers forming processes can not excluded.
