摘要: Policosanol is a mixture of aliphatic primary alcohols isolated and purified from sugar cane wax, that induces cholesterol-lowering effects in experimental models human beings. When lung fibroblasts were incubated with policosanol for 48 hours prior to the experiment, dose dependent inhibition 14C-acetate incorporation into total cholesterol was observed, whereas labeled mevalonate not inhibited. Even when synthesis strongly inhibited, low density lipoprotein (LDL) processing markedly enhanced. Thus, LDL binding, internalization degradation significantly increased after treatment. In addition, despite fact that'cholesterol generation inhibited at lowest assayed, increased. The current data indicate inhibits earliest steps biosynthetic pathway. On other hand, this study suggests increase may be partially explained by biosynthesis, even though an sterol-independent mechanism might responsible enhancement LDL-receptor activity.
